👥 Multiplayer

How does multiplayer work?

Create or join a room, share the code with friends, and everyone answers questions in real time from their own devices - no account required to join.

Multiplayer on have.you lets everyone play from their own device simultaneously, rather than passing a single phone around. It's perfect for remote groups (video call + have.you room = amazing) or in-person groups where everyone has a phone.

Here's how to get a room going:

  • Host: Go to the multiplayer page, give your room a name, choose a category, and click Create Room. You'll get a short room code.
  • Guests: Click "Join Room," enter the room code, pick a display name, and join. No account needed to join as a guest.
  • Once everyone is in, the host starts the game. Questions appear on everyone's screen at the same time.
  • Players tap "Have" or "Never," and after everyone responds, the answers are revealed together.

Rooms support up to 20 players simultaneously. The host controls the pace - they advance to the next question when the group is ready. There's also an optional timer mode where questions auto-advance after a set number of seconds.

Multiplayer rooms use real-time WebSocket connections, so responses appear instantly. A good WiFi or LTE connection makes for the smoothest experience, but it works on most connections.
