What is the difference between private and public rooms?

Private rooms are invite-only with a code; public rooms appear in the lobby for anyone to discover and join.

When creating a multiplayer room on have.you, you choose between private and public visibility. Here's how they differ:

  • Private rooms are protected by a room code. Only people you share the code with can join. The room does not appear in any public listing. This is the best choice for friends and family games where you want control over who joins.
  • Public rooms appear in the have.you room lobby, where any user browsing for an open game can find and join. This is great if you want to meet new people or play with a larger, open community.

Private is the default setting, and we recommend it for most groups. You can always change a room from private to public (or vice versa) before the game starts, but not once it's in progress.

There is no difference in gameplay or features between private and public rooms - the only distinction is discoverability. Both room types support the same question categories, player limits, and host controls.

As a host, you can also kick players from any room at any time, regardless of whether it's private or public.
